Fourth Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima Commemorated at OLF

On 19 August 2026, the Church of Our Lady of Fatima commemorated the Fourth Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima with Holy Hour, Eucharistic Celebration and a procession in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Fourth Apparition recalls Our Lady’s appearance to Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta at Valinhos on 19 August 1917. The apparition took place six days later than the customary 13th of the month because the three shepherd children had been detained by the local authorities on 13 August and were unable to go to the Cova da Iria.

During the Holy Hour, prayers were offered for the conversion of those present, their families, society and the world. The faithful also prayed the two prayers taught to the shepherd children by the Angel of Peace.

During the Eucharistic Celebration, Fr. Albert Arokiasamy reflected on the Gospel and the abundance of God’s love and grace. Echoing Our Lady’s message at Fatima, he encouraged the faithful to focus on conversion of the heart.

Following Mass, the congregation joined in procession in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Fifth Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima will be commemorated on 13 September 2026, and all are invited to join the parish community for an evening of prayer and devotion.

Sri Pahang BEC Revived After 10-Year Hiatus

After a decade of inactivity, the Sri Pahang Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) in the Bangsar Zone has begun a new chapter.

On 18 August 2026, 23 parishioners — comprising former BEC members and newer residents — gathered at the home of Mdm Mary for an evening of prayer, discussion, fellowship and renewal.

The revival follows the continuing pastoral outreach to OLF’s Tamil-speaking communities by Parish Administrator Fr Andrew Manickam, together with the willingness of Sr Anita Anne to serve as Coordinator of the renewed BEC.

The gathering began with the Holy Rosary prayed in Tamil. Fr Andrew, together with coordinators from the Tamil Apostolate, EMHC and BECCOT, then spoke about the importance of the BEC as a community of faith, mutual support and care, and as a bridge between the parish and the neighbourhood.

As Sri Pahang BEC establishes itself once again, members were encouraged to choose a patron saint for their community.

Fr Andrew also shared plans to make regular pastoral visits to BECs, including bringing the Holy Eucharist and the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick to homebound parishioners. Members were encouraged to help identify Catholics in their neighbourhood who are homebound or in need of pastoral and sacramental care.

He also encouraged couples whose marriages have yet to be recognised by the Church to approach him for guidance and assistance.

The evening concluded with Holy Communion and fellowship among members of the newly revitalised community.

May the renewed Sri Pahang BEC continue to grow as a community of faith, hope and love, and become a living presence of Christ within its neighbourhood.

Celebrating the Season of Creation at Camp RED, Bukit Tinggi

The Archdiocesan Creation Justice Ministry, in collaboration with the OLF Catechetical Ministry, invites students and catechists to participate in an outdoor Sunday Eucharistic celebration at Camp RED, Bukit Tinggi, as part of this year’s Season of Creation.

Observed from 1 September to 4 October, the Season of Creation is a time for Christians to renew their relationship with God and all creation, and to reflect upon our responsibility to care for our common home.

Jesus Youth Outreach Brings Joy and Fellowship to Samaritan Hope Home Volunteers

The Jesus Youth Ministry organised an outreach programme for volunteers of Samaritan Hope Home on 16 August 2026, bringing participants together for an evening of fellowship, joy and friendship.

The programme included games, testimonies and performances by the children, with everyone joining in and sharing in the activities.

The evening provided an opportunity for the Jesus Youth members and volunteers to spend time together, build new friendships and share the joy and love of Christ through fellowship and community.

The programme concluded with dinner and the distribution of prizes, bringing a joyful evening together to a close.

Feast of St Tarcisius: Honouring Those Who Serve at the Altar and the Eucharist

Parishioners gathered at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima on 15 August 2026 to celebrate the Feast of St Tarcisius, the young third-century martyr remembered for giving his life to protect the Holy Eucharist during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Valerian.

During the Holy Hour and Mass, prayers were offered for the Altar Servers of OLF and throughout the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, as well as for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs).

In his homily, Fr Andrew Manickam reflected on what the Church can learn from young saints and the remarkable faith and courage they displayed at a tender age.

Drawing upon the witness of St Tarcisius, Fr Andrew reminded those present of the reverence with which Catholics are called to approach the Eucharist — in receiving Holy Communion, in our gestures during Adoration, and above all in truly believing in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

On behalf of the Parish Pastoral Council and the congregation, Fr Andrew thanked the parish’s Altar Servers for their dedication and faithful service at Mass. He also expressed his appreciation to the EMHCs for their commitment, particularly those who bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound.

A special blessing was imparted upon the Altar Servers and EMHCs in thanksgiving for their ministries and continued service to the Church.

The celebration concluded with fellowship, bringing together those present in a spirit of gratitude and joy.

Special Devotional Prayer in Honour of Our Lady of Fatima | 19 August 2026

As we continue our monthly devotion commemorating the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima, parishioners are invited to gather at OLF on Wednesday, 19 August 2026 for an evening of prayer in honour of Our Blessed Mother.

This month’s devotion recalls the fourth apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, which took place on 19 August 1917.

The evening will include:

6.00pm – Holy Hour
6.30pm – Holy Rosary
7.00pm – Novena to Our Lady of Fatima
7.10pm – Holy Benediction
7.30pm – Holy Mass, followed by a mini procession within the church

The message of Fatima continues to call us to prayer, conversion and a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Dewan Fatima was transformed into a busy medical screening centre on Sunday, 9 August 2026, as almost 200 people turned up for OLF’s Community Cancer Screening Day.

Organised by the Church of Our Lady of Fatima in collaboration with the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM), the programme offered a range of cancer and health screenings, with a 10-tonne mobile screening unit stationed in the church car park to provide a private space for breast examinations.

The response began even before the doors opened, with a queue forming about an hour ahead of the scheduled 8.00am start. Numbers continued to grow after each Sunday Mass as parishioners made their way to Dewan Fatima. Although the screening was scheduled to conclude at 3.00pm, the strong turnout saw the programme continue until 3.30pm.

Parishioners and members of the wider community from different age groups and backgrounds participated, with particular emphasis on reaching senior citizens, members of the B40 community and foreign workers.

NCSM supported the programme with a 24-member team comprising doctors, staff and volunteers, together with a volunteer doctor from OLF.

The parish and Parish Administrator Fr. Andrew Manickam extend their heartfelt appreciation to Petronilla Joseph and the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, as well as the doctors, staff, volunteers and OLF volunteers whose generosity and service helped make the screening possible.

The Community Cancer Screening Day formed part of OLF’s series of initiatives marking the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, celebrated this year with the theme “I will never forget you.”

The parish had earlier celebrated a special Eucharistic Celebration for grandparents and seniors on 27 July, followed by fellowship over lunch organised by the Amazing Greys Ministry.

The next initiative will be an outing for seniors, with details to be announced in due course.

Through these initiatives, OLF continues to affirm our elderly and vulnerable members of the community not only in words, but through concrete acts of welcome, care and accompaniment.

The OLF Formation Ministry invites parishioners and friends to “Carrying Baggage: A Reflection on Less Baggage, More Freedom”, a psycho-spiritual reflection exploring the emotional and spiritual burdens we may be carrying and how we can begin to recognise and address them.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, normally celebrated on 15 August, has been transferred to Sunday, 16 August 2026 by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei for pastoral reasons.

Parishioners are kindly informed that all Masses at OLF that weekend will celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption and fulfil the Holy Day of Obligation.

Strengthening the Tamil-Speaking BEC Community at St Anthony, Pantai Dalam

About 15 members of St Anthony Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC), Pantai Dalam, gathered at the home of Mrs Juliana on the evening of 7 August 2026, as Parish Administrator Fr. Andrew Manickam continued his pastoral visits to the Tamil-speaking communities of the parish.

The gathering began with the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary, led by Arul Raj, the longest-serving BECCOT Coordinator. Prayed in both Tamil and English, the Rosary brought different generations together in prayer, from a young primary school pupil to teenagers and working adults.

The evening also provided an opportunity for an open and meaningful conversation between Fr. Andrew and the community. Members spoke candidly about their experiences, concerns and hopes for the future of St Anthony BEC, while Fr. Andrew listened and engaged with the issues raised.

He assured those gathered that the Tamil-speaking faithful are an integral part of the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, and reaffirmed the parish’s commitment to supporting their spiritual and pastoral needs and encouraging their participation in the wider life of the parish.

Fr. Andrew concluded the gathering with prayer and a blessing before everyone shared a home-cooked meal contributed by BEC members.

The fellowship that followed brought together young and old in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. More than a pastoral visit, the evening reflected what lies at the heart of BEC life: families gathering in prayer, listening to one another, sharing fellowship and growing together in faith.
