Feast of St Tarcisius: Honouring Those Who Serve at the Altar and the Eucharist

Parishioners gathered at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima on 15 August 2026 to celebrate the Feast of St Tarcisius, the young third-century martyr remembered for giving his life to protect the Holy Eucharist during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Valerian.

During the Holy Hour and Mass, prayers were offered for the Altar Servers of OLF and throughout the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, as well as for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs).

In his homily, Fr Andrew Manickam reflected on what the Church can learn from young saints and the remarkable faith and courage they displayed at a tender age.

Drawing upon the witness of St Tarcisius, Fr Andrew reminded those present of the reverence with which Catholics are called to approach the Eucharist — in receiving Holy Communion, in our gestures during Adoration, and above all in truly believing in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

On behalf of the Parish Pastoral Council and the congregation, Fr Andrew thanked the parish’s Altar Servers for their dedication and faithful service at Mass. He also expressed his appreciation to the EMHCs for their commitment, particularly those who bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound.

A special blessing was imparted upon the Altar Servers and EMHCs in thanksgiving for their ministries and continued service to the Church.

The celebration concluded with fellowship, bringing together those present in a spirit of gratitude and joy.
