On Saturday, 10 October 2026, the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) of the Church of Our Lady of Fatima organised a pilgrimage to Melaka, with parishioners and friends of the parish also joining the journey.

Departing from OLF early in the morning in two buses, the pilgrims made a breakfast stop along the way and prayed the Rosary before arriving at the newly built Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Krubong.

Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr Andrew Manickam. During his homily, Fr Andrew emphasised the importance of spending time in the presence of the Lord. He encouraged those gathered to pause, listen and discern before making decisions or taking action, whether in their personal lives or in the exercise of their ministries.

The pilgrims also learnt about the history of the church before proceeding to the Church of St Theresa, where they spent time in prayer and were introduced to aspects of the church building and its surroundings.

The afternoon included lunch and fellowship at Jonker Street, with opportunities to enjoy local delicacies, including cendol, and some shopping. The group also visited the Portuguese Settlement before beginning their return journey, during which evening prayers were offered.

The pilgrimage provided an opportunity for spiritual reflection, fellowship and the strengthening of friendships among the participants.

In expressing their appreciation to Fr Andrew, the EMHCs shared:

“It was truly a meaningful and spiritually enriching experience for everyone involved. Your careful planning, guidance, and the thoughtful moments of prayer made the journey so special and memorable. We deeply appreciate the time, energy, and care you poured into making this pilgrimage a blessing for our community.”

The day served as a reminder that amid the demands of daily life and ministry, taking time to pause, pray and journey together can deepen both faith and community bonds.

On 6 October 2026, St Jude BEC, OUG, welcomed members of St Andrew BEC, Bangsar Baru 1, for an inter-BEC Rosary gathering in conjunction with the Marian month.

Members of both communities took turns leading the Rosary, reflecting on the Sorrowful Mysteries and praying the Litany of the Saints. The evening also included the singing of hymns and prayers for various intentions, including those facing health challenges, the elderly, young people, pilgrims travelling to Assisi, and Archbishop Julian Leow and Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam on their episcopal ordination anniversaries.

Fr. Andrew Manickam joined the gathering and administered the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

As a gesture of friendship, each visiting member of St Andrew BEC received a handmade car Rosary, crafted by a member of St Jude BEC together with her spouse.

The gathering provided an opportunity for members of both BECs to pray together, build friendships and strengthen their sense of belonging to the wider OLF parish community.

Such inter-BEC initiatives continue to encourage greater participation in parish life while nurturing the bonds of faith and fellowship among parishioners.

Some 190 parishioners and friends from 22 parishes across the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur gathered at the Church of St John Marie Vianney, Tampin, on Saturday, 5 September, to celebrate the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

The outdoor Mass at the church grotto was celebrated by Fr. Andrew Manickam, Ecclesiastical Assistant of the KL Archdiocesan Creation Justice Ministry, and concelebrated by Fr. Albet Ariokasamy, Fr. Xavier Andrew, Fr. Edwin Peter and Fr. Anthony Robert.

In his homily, Fr. Andrew spoke about the need for ecological conversion, beginning with an awareness of ecological sin. He reflected on how nature, plants and animals can be mistreated or discarded without remorse when the consequences are not immediately felt, and spoke strongly about the seriousness of environmental destruction.

Drawing attention to the effects of climate change, including floods and the collapse of glaciers, Fr. Andrew encouraged everyone to recognise that even seemingly small actions matter — from picking up discarded plastic to planting trees.

Parish Priest Fr. Albet invited those present to explore the church grounds and spend time among its trees and plants. Many also visited the chikoo (sapodilla) tree planted at the church compound last May, while others spent time in prayer and reflection at the outdoor Stations of the Cross.

The young people added their own message through an entertaining skit encouraging greater care for creation.

As a reminder to carry that responsibility home, representatives of each of the 22 participating parishes received a potted plant for their parish.

The KL Archdiocesan Creation Justice Ministry expressed its gratitude to Fr. Albet, Fr. Anthony and the St John Marie Vianney parish community for their warm welcome and assistance, as well as to Fr. Xavier and Fr. Edwin for concelebrating the Mass and accompanying parishioners from Seremban and Port Dickson.

The gathering was a timely reminder that care for our common home begins not only with awareness, but with the choices each of us makes every day.

The Archdiocesan Prayer Ministry invites the faithful to participate in the Feast of St. Thérèse at the Church of St. Theresa, Nilai, on Thursday, 1 October 2026.

The theme for the celebration is “St. Thérèse’s Witness of Love with Mary.” The Eucharistic Celebration will begin at 7.00pm, followed by fellowship.

Transportation will be available with pick-up at SFA at 4.00pm, OLF at 4.30pm and SFX at 5.00pm. The transportation fee is RM30 per person.

Parishioners are invited to join the celebration and reflect upon St. Thérèse’s enduring witness of living the Christian life through simplicity, trust and love.

On 12 August 2026, OLF PIHD extended its community health outreach to the Batang Padang district in Perak, bringing health awareness and medical services to students, parents and teachers from schools in the area.

The outreach was organised in collaboration with the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), SJK(T) Ladang Sungkai and Persatuan Guru Besar SJKT Malaysia, with medical services and support provided by Doctors Beyond Borders and NCSM.

More than 90 students, together with parents and teachers, participated in the programme, bringing the total attendance to approximately 130 people. The outreach involved participants from 10 schools in the surrounding area.

The programme marked the first time a health camp of this nature was conducted in the Batang Padang district, providing an opportunity to bring health awareness and screening closer to local families and school communities.

Through initiatives such as this, OLF PIHD continues to reach beyond the parish community, working alongside partner organisations to serve those in need and promote greater awareness of health and wellbeing.

On the fourth day of the Perjalanan Salib – the Journey of the Cross, the parish joined Catholics throughout Malaysia in praying for the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. The day’s spiritual and communal goal called for repentance throughout society and the Church, while fostering unity and strength among God’s people.

The liturgical readings offered a profound reflection on what it means to walk the way of the Cross as disciples of Christ.

In the First Reading (2 Corinthians 4:7–15), St Paul describes believers as “earthenware jars” entrusted with the treasure of the Gospel. Though human weakness and suffering are part of the Christian journey, God’s power is revealed through those who remain faithful to Christ.

The Responsorial Psalm proclaimed the promise that “those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap,” reminding us that sacrifices offered in love and perseverance are never without hope, for God brings new life from every act of faithful endurance.

In the Gospel (Matthew 20:20–28), Jesus taught His disciples that greatness in God’s Kingdom is found not in positions of honour but in humble service. By asking, “Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?”, He invited them to embrace the Cross before sharing in His glory.

These readings give deeper meaning to the Perjalanan Salib itself. The Journey of the Cross is more than a devotional procession from one parish to another. It is a living reminder that every Christian is called to walk with Christ, embracing the Cross each day with faith, humility and hope. In carrying the Cross, we also carry the treasure of the Gospel into our families, workplaces and communities, becoming witnesses to God’s love through lives of humble service.

The day’s Scriptures also beautifully reflect the prayer intention of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. Repentance begins with the humility to recognise our need for God’s mercy. Unity grows when we place service before self-interest. Strength is found not in our own abilities, but in God’s grace working through ordinary people who faithfully follow Christ.

As the Perjalanan Salib continues its Journey of the Cross towards the Malaysia Pastoral Convention, may each encounter draw us closer to the Lord and inspire us to become faithful disciples who carry both His Cross and the treasure of His Gospel wherever we go.
