✝️ Never Carrying the Cross Alone

One habit that has become part of my life is holding a crucifix as I fall asleep. Because I often struggle to sleep at night, the crucifix has become a quiet reminder that Christ is with me, even in the darkness and silence of the night.

On the opening day of the Perjalanan Salib, one particular moment touched me deeply. As I watched the volunteers together with Fr Andrew Manickam each place a hand on a small part of the cross during the procession, I found myself unexpectedly moved. It was a simple gesture, yet it spoke so profoundly to my heart.

At that moment, I was reminded that carrying the cross is never as easy as it appears. From the outside, it may seem manageable, but those who strive to follow Christ know that the cross often comes in the form of hidden struggles, silent sacrifices, disappointments, and daily perseverance. Yet the same cross that speaks of suffering also proclaims victory, for through the Cross, Christ conquered sin and death.

Every gesture throughout the opening day of the Perjalanan Salib brought back memories of the crosses I have carried in my own life. Many of those crosses were unseen by others, but God has been present in every step of the journey. Instead of seeing only suffering, I was reminded that each cross has become an invitation to trust Him more deeply.

The Holy Hour, the Rosary, the intercessions for the Archdiocese, and the community that gathered each day to walk this journey together all became channels of God’s grace. They reminded me that no one carries the cross alone. Christ walks with us, and through the prayers and presence of the Church, we are strengthened to continue the journey.

Although the days of the Perjalanan Salib seemed to pass by so quickly, they have left a lasting impression on my heart. I thank God for allowing me to be part of this beautiful pilgrimage of faith. It was not simply an event that I attended; it became another gentle reminder that every cross embraced with Christ is never the end of the story. Beyond every cross lies the hope and joy of the Resurrection.

🙏 “I Felt Connected to Jesus”

My son who is not baptised followed me to mass on 28 July – it has been a very long time since he came to mass. We were there during rosary + some part of the adoration and I told him to lift all his pain and anxiety to our Lord who is present in the Blessed Sacrament.

After mass I asked him how he felt and he shared that he felt connected to Jesus when he prayed during Adoration – it’s something I knew he would feel since I have felt the powerful presence of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament every time I attend Adoration or spend time in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

He was very moved and touched by Father Andrew’s sermon on “sacred wounds” – he never saw his wounds as sacred and his comment was that Father spoke from his heart and truly believed in what he shared.

To God be all glory, AMEN

✝️ Never Letting Go of the Cross

I was the photographer for the first day of the Perjalanan Salib. As I tried my best to capture every meaningful moment for our Facebook page, I found myself focusing so much on getting the perfect shot that I was slowly missing the experience itself.

I kept hoping for that one perfect photograph, but somehow it never came. Instead, God was waiting to capture my heart.

As Fr Andrew and several others walked in procession towards the altar, something touched me deeply. It was not the procession itself, but the way every hand reached out to hold the wooden cross. Each person carefully supported it, helping to keep it balanced as they walked. I couldn’t take my eyes off that moment.

Then, when the cross was finally placed firmly on its stand, a question quietly arose within me:

Lord, were You too heavy to carry? Or was it the fear of dropping You?”

As I looked at the cross standing so steadily before us, another thought came to my heart.

Perhaps that is what our lives are meant to be.

As we journey with Christ, carrying our crosses is never easy. We stumble. We struggle. Sometimes we are afraid we are not strong enough, or that we might fail Him. Yet when we finally reach the destination and place our burdens before God, our struggles no longer seem greater than the Cross itself. The Cross stands firm, unshaken, reminding us that Christ has always been stronger than the weight we carried.

Maybe the journey is not about how perfectly we carry the Cross, but about never letting go of it until we reach Him.

The Cross That Heals: OLF Concludes Its Week with the Perjalanan Salib

More than a hundred parishioners gathered at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima on the evening of 28 July 2026 for the final day of the Perjalanan Salib – Journey of the Cross during its stay at the parish.

In his homily, Fr. Andrew Manickam reflected on the Cross as a sign not only of Christ’s suffering, but also of the wounds experienced by every person. He spoke of how pain, brokenness and hurts can sometimes be carried across generations, affecting families and communities. Yet through Christ’s Passion, the Cross becomes a place of hope, healing and restoration.

Fr. Andrew invited the congregation to see themselves not merely as recipients of God’s healing, but as “wounded healers”—people whose own experiences of suffering can become a source of compassion, encouragement and support for others.

The day’s Scripture readings reinforced this message. In the First Reading, the prophet Jeremiah gave voice to a people wounded by suffering yet steadfast in hope, praying, “O our God, you are our hope.” The Gospel reminded the faithful that amid the struggles of the present, those who remain faithful to Christ “will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.”

Special prayers were offered for the sick, those facing medical challenges and all who carry physical, emotional or spiritual wounds, affirming that no one is forgotten in Christ’s love.

At the conclusion of Mass, Fr. Andrew blessed the congregation with a crucifix as the recessional hymn was sung. The simple yet moving gesture served as a reminder that the healing power of the Cross extends to every generation and calls each believer to become an instrument of Christ’s compassion in the lives of others.

With the conclusion of its week at OLF, the Perjalanan Salib now continues its journey through the churches of the Kuala Lumpur Central District, beginning with Holy Rosary Church, Brickfields, before proceeding to St. Anthony’s Church, Pudu, the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, and Cardijn House. The Cross will eventually join the eight other diocesan crosses at the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026 in Sibu, where they will come together as a visible sign of the unity of the Church in Malaysia.

Final Day of the Perjalanan Salib’s Stay at OLF

The Church of Our Lady of Fatima warmly invites all parishioners to the final day of the Perjalanan Salib – the Journey of the Cross during its seven-day stay at OLF on Tuesday, 28 July.

Throughout the past week, parishioners, Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs), ministries and visitors have come together before the Cross in prayer, offering their intentions for the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026 (MPC) and seeking God’s guidance for the Church in Malaysia.

Although the Perjalanan Salib will continue its journey to the next parish, its time at OLF concludes with an evening of prayer centred on Christ’s saving Cross and the hope it brings to all who place their trust in Him.

The evening’s programme is as follows:

6.30pm – Holy Hour
7.00pm – Holy Rosary
7.30pm – Holy Eucharist

Following Mass, all are invited to come forward to receive a special blessing with the Cross.

As the Cross continues its journey, may the faith, hope and renewal experienced during its stay at OLF remain with us, strengthening us in our Christian lives and in our preparations for the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026.

BEC St. Valentine Joins the Perjalanan Salib in Prayer

Five members of BEC St. Valentine from Happy Garden recently took part in the Perjalanan Salib – the Journey of the Cross, responding to the parish’s invitation for every Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) to spend time in prayer before the Cross.

Gathering with fellow BECs from the Old Klang Road, Brickfields and Puchong zones, they joined in praying the Rosary, with each BEC leading one decade. Together, they offered prayers for the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026 (MPC) and for the intentions of the Church.

Following the time of prayer, members of BEC St. Valentine shared that the experience had been uplifting and spiritually enriching. They spoke of experiencing God’s grace and the comforting presence of the Holy Family and the Holy Spirit as they journeyed together in prayer.

The Perjalanan Salib continues to provide an opportunity for the parish’s Basic Ecclesial Communities to gather in faith, pray together and deepen their relationship with Christ as the parish journeys towards the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026.

BEC St. Francesco Spends an Evening in Prayer Before the Perjalanan Salib

As part of the parish’s invitation for every Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) to spend time in prayer before the Perjalanan Salib – the Journey of the Cross, four members of BEC St. Francesco (BB2) gathered on Friday, 24 July, for an evening of prayer and reflection.

During their visit, they prayed for the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026 (MPC), remembered the intentions of their BEC, and prayed a decade of the Rosary. They also wrote their personal petitions and placed them in the petition box before spending time venerating the Cross in quiet prayer.

The evening concluded with the parish Holy Hour, where they joined the community in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.

Afterwards, they shared that the quiet time spent in the presence of the Cross and the Blessed Sacrament had been uplifting and deeply meaningful.

The parish continues to encourage its Basic Ecclesial Communities to take part in the Perjalanan Salib, offering time for personal prayer, reflection and intercession as together we journey towards the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026.

Holy Hour Held for the Young People of the Parish During the Perjalanan Salib

As part of the Perjalanan Salib – the Journey of the Cross, the OLF Youth Ministry organised a special Holy Hour dedicated to praying for the young people of the parish, the Archdiocese and the wider Church in Malaysia.

Before the Blessed Sacrament, those gathered prayed especially for the young people who will participate in the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026 (MPC), asking that they may walk faithfully with Christ and respond generously to His call.

The evening also included a time of praise and worship in English and Tamil, led in collaboration with Cornerstone Disciples, whose ministry helped create a peaceful and prayerful atmosphere for all who attended.

The parish was also grateful for the presence of Fr. Michael Adawai, who joined the congregation in prayer and encouraged our young people to deepen their relationship with Christ through Eucharistic Adoration.

The Holy Hour reflected the spirit of the Perjalanan Salib, bringing the faithful together in prayer as the Church prepares for the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026. Through this time before the Blessed Sacrament, the parish united in praying that its young people would continue to grow in faith and respond generously to God’s call in their lives.

Day 5 of the Perjalanan Salib: Discovering the Greatest Treasure

The Perjalanan Salib – the Journey of the Cross continued on its fifth day as the parish joined Catholics throughout Malaysia in praying for the Dioceses of Keningau and Sandakan.

Providentially, the day also marked the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, celebrated on the Memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus. In his homily, Fr. Michael Adawai invited the faithful to reflect on the theme: “The Wisdom of Prayer and the Gift of Generations,” reminding the congregation that the faith we possess today has been handed down through generations of faithful witnesses.

The liturgical readings centred on the question: What is life’s greatest treasure?

In the First Reading (1 Kings 3:5–12), the young King Solomon chose not wealth or power, but the gift of wisdom – a discerning heart capable of leading God’s people according to God’s will.

The Responsorial Psalm echoed this desire, proclaiming that God’s law is more precious than silver or gold.

In the Gospel (Matthew 13:44–52), Jesus compared the Kingdom of Heaven to a hidden treasure and a pearl of great value, teaching that nothing compares to the joy of discovering and following Him.

Drawing these readings together, Fr. Michael reminded the faithful that while the world often measures success through possessions and achievement, the greatest treasure is found in a life rooted in wisdom, prayer and faith. He also encouraged the congregation to cherish parents, grandparents and the elderly, describing them as living witnesses whose sacrifices and steadfast faith continue to strengthen families, the Church and society.

The readings also gave deeper meaning to the Perjalanan Salib itself. The Journey of the Cross calls every Christian to seek the treasure that truly lasts – not material wealth, but Christ Himself. Each stage of the journey invites the faithful to grow in wisdom, embrace God’s will, and hand on the gift of faith to future generations.

As the Perjalanan Salib continues towards the Malaysia Pastoral Convention, may our hearts remain fixed on Christ, the greatest treasure we can ever possess, and may we continue to pray for the Dioceses of Keningau and Sandakan as they journey together in faith, hope and love.
