Day 4 of the Perjalanan Salib: Carrying Christ’s Treasure Through the Cross

On the fourth day of the Perjalanan Salib – the Journey of the Cross, the parish joined Catholics throughout Malaysia in praying for the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. The day’s spiritual and communal goal called for repentance throughout society and the Church, while fostering unity and strength among God’s people.

The liturgical readings offered a profound reflection on what it means to walk the way of the Cross as disciples of Christ.

In the First Reading (2 Corinthians 4:7–15), St Paul describes believers as “earthenware jars” entrusted with the treasure of the Gospel. Though human weakness and suffering are part of the Christian journey, God’s power is revealed through those who remain faithful to Christ.

The Responsorial Psalm proclaimed the promise that “those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap,” reminding us that sacrifices offered in love and perseverance are never without hope, for God brings new life from every act of faithful endurance.

In the Gospel (Matthew 20:20–28), Jesus taught His disciples that greatness in God’s Kingdom is found not in positions of honour but in humble service. By asking, “Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?”, He invited them to embrace the Cross before sharing in His glory.

These readings give deeper meaning to the Perjalanan Salib itself. The Journey of the Cross is more than a devotional procession from one parish to another. It is a living reminder that every Christian is called to walk with Christ, embracing the Cross each day with faith, humility and hope. In carrying the Cross, we also carry the treasure of the Gospel into our families, workplaces and communities, becoming witnesses to God’s love through lives of humble service.

The day’s Scriptures also beautifully reflect the prayer intention of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. Repentance begins with the humility to recognise our need for God’s mercy. Unity grows when we place service before self-interest. Strength is found not in our own abilities, but in God’s grace working through ordinary people who faithfully follow Christ.

As the Perjalanan Salib continues its Journey of the Cross towards the Malaysia Pastoral Convention, may each encounter draw us closer to the Lord and inspire us to become faithful disciples who carry both His Cross and the treasure of His Gospel wherever we go.

Perjalanan Salib: St Faustina BEC and St Anthony of Padua BEC Unite in Prayer

Members of St Faustina BEC and St Anthony of Padua BEC (Pantai Zone) gathered at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima on 25 July 2026 to participate in the Perjalanan Salib, joining the nationwide spiritual preparation for the Malaysia Pastoral Convention (MPC) 2026.

Centred on the theme, “Celebrate, Listen, Walk – that we may walk together as Christ’s people: listening, discerning and loving,” the gathering provided an opportunity for prayer, reflection and communal discernment.

Participants reflected on the four pastoral thrusts of the Convention—Church, Society, Family and Ecology—and offered prayers for the unity of the Church, the poor and marginalised, migrants, peace in the nation, those burdened by suffering, missionary discipleship, and all who are sick, elderly or affected by ecological challenges.

The community also prayed the Holy Rosary, the Prayer for the Malaysia Pastoral Convention, and invoked the intercession of St Helena of the Cross.

The gathering strengthened the spirit of fellowship within the BEC community and reminded participants that authentic discernment calls the faithful to journey more closely with God, grow in self-awareness, and walk together with one another in faith and love.

BECs Unite in Prayer at the Perjalanan Salib

Members of several Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) from across the parish came together on 25 July 2026 to participate in the Perjalanan Salib, gathering in prayer throughout the day as one family in Christ.

The day commenced at 8.30am with members of St Faustina BEC and St Anthony BEC (Pantai Zone). At 10.00am, members from St Jacinta, St Augustine and St John Paul II (Brickfields Zone), St Thérèse of Lisieux (Puchong Zone), and St Valentine and St Jude (Old Klang Road Zone) continued the devotion. The day’s programme concluded in the evening with St Paul BEC, accompanied by Fr. Michael Adawai.

Throughout the various sessions, participants prayed the Holy Rosary, recited the Prayer to St Helena, sang hymns, and offered prayers for the sick, the suffering, the abandoned, and all who are in need of God’s mercy, healing and comfort.

The communities also united in prayer for the Malaysia Pastoral Convention, which will take place in Sibu this September, asking the Holy Spirit to guide its deliberations and bear abundant fruit for the Church in Malaysia.

The bilingual recitation of the Rosary in English and Tamil served as a visible reminder of the universality of the Catholic Church and the unity shared by the faithful despite differences in language and background.

The gathering reflected the mission of the Basic Ecclesial Communities to nurture faith through prayer, fellowship and mutual support, as parishioners continue their pilgrimage together with Christ.

Perjalanan Salib – Day 3: Rooted in Christ, Bearing Fruit for His Kingdom

On the third day of the Perjalanan Salib, the parish united in prayer for the Diocese of Malacca-Johore, whose spiritual and communal goal is to foster a spirituality rooted in friendship, communion and discipleship.

The liturgy centred on God’s call to gather His people and lead them back to Himself. In the First Reading (Jeremiah 3:14–17), the Lord promises to appoint faithful shepherds to guide His flock with wisdom and understanding, while the Gospel (Matthew 13:18–23) explains the Parable of the Sower and the invitation to become good soil that bears lasting fruit.

In his homily, Fr. Michael Adawai reflected that although many believers gladly receive God’s Word, it can easily be choked by worldly anxieties, material pursuits, comfort and the distractions of modern life. He reminded the congregation that genuine discipleship is not measured by how well we understand or explain Scripture, but by the fruits it produces in our daily lives—love, humility, patience, compassion, understanding and forgiveness.

These reflections echoed the day’s prayer intention for the Diocese of Malacca-Johore, encouraging all the faithful to cultivate hearts that remain open to God’s Word and to live out the Gospel through authentic friendship, communion and discipleship.

The parish continues to entrust the Perjalanan Salib to the Lord, praying that this pilgrimage of faith will inspire renewal within every diocese and strengthen the Church throughout Malaysia.

Perjalanan Salib – Day 2: Drawing Life from the Fountain of Living Water

The parish community continued its Perjalanan Salib pilgrimage on the second day by gathering in prayer for the Diocese of Penang and its spiritual and communal goals.

During the Holy Rosary, the faithful prayed for Cardinal Sebastian Francis, together with the clergy, religious and laity of the diocese, asking that they may grow in a deeper relationship with Christ and journey together as the People of God.

The day’s prayer intention focused on deepening the faith of clergy and laity, strengthening small church communities, and fostering a greater care for God’s creation. These aspirations were reflected in the day’s Scripture readings.

In the First Reading from the Book of Jeremiah, God revealed Himself as the Fountain of Living Water, reminding the faithful that true renewal begins with hearts rooted in Christ. The Responsorial Psalm proclaimed, “In you, Lord, is the source of life,” while the Gospel according to St Matthew called believers to receive God’s Word with open and receptive hearts so that it may bear fruit in their lives.

It was encouraging to see many parishioners and friends coming together in prayer, reflecting the unity that lies at the heart of the Perjalanan Salib pilgrimage. As the journey continues, the parish remains united in praying for each diocese throughout Malaysia, asking the Lord to strengthen His Church and guide His people to walk together in faith, hope and love.

Feast of St. Mary Magdalene and the Welcome of the Perjalanan Salib

The Church of Our Lady of Fatima celebrated the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene on 22 July 2026, while joyfully welcoming the Perjalanan Salib as it continues its journey through the nine archdioceses and dioceses of Malaysia in preparation for the Malaysia Pastoral Convention 2026.

The evening began with the recitation of the Angelus, followed by a Holy Hour, the Rosary and Benediction before the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Andrew Manickam reflected on the life of St. Mary Magdalene, reminding the faithful that although she has often been misunderstood throughout history, Sacred Scripture presents her as a devoted disciple of Christ. She remained faithful at the foot of the Cross, became the first witness to the Resurrection, and was entrusted with proclaiming the Good News to the Apostles.

The arrival of the Perjalanan Salib marks the beginning of a special week of prayer in our parish. Each day until 28 July 2026, the parish community will pray for one of the nine archdioceses and dioceses of Malaysia, together with a specific pastoral intention inspired by the aspirations of the Malaysia Pastoral Convention.

On the opening day, prayers were offered for the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, with the intention of fostering a greater sense of co-responsibility among clergy, religious and laity, promoting authentic relationships as we journey together in faith and mission.

Parishioners, families and friends are warmly encouraged to visit the church throughout the week to spend time in quiet prayer before the Cross. To facilitate this opportunity, the Church will remain open daily until 10.00 pm until 28 July 2026.

May this sacred time renew our faith, strengthen our unity and inspire each of us to participate more fully in the life and mission of the Church.
