Novena to Our Lady of Fatima 2026 — Day 7
“Mary — Model of Mercy”
11 May 2026
The seventh day of the Novena to Our Lady of Fatima gathered parishioners in prayer for the souls of departed family members, parishioners, clergy, and religious who have gone before us. During the Mass, the petition box containing intentions for the departed was prayerfully offered up at the altar.
Celebrating the Novena Mass, Rev. Fr. Christopher Soosaipillai reflected on the theme “Mary, Model of Mercy.” Returning to the parish where he grew up, Fr. Christopher shared how the annual candlelight procession through the streets of Brickfields continues to be a powerful public witness of God’s love and mercy.
Drawing from his recent pilgrimage to Turkey, Fr. Christopher recounted visiting the house believed to have been the home of Mother Mary. He reflected on how even a simple gesture such as making the Sign of the Cross can become a meaningful witness of faith, mercy, and hope to those around us.
Reflecting on the Wedding Feast at Cana, Fr. Christopher highlighted how Mary noticed the needs of others and brought them to Jesus. Her compassionate intercession became a sign of God’s mercy and care for His people. He also reflected on Mary’s silent accompaniment of Jesus during the Way of the Cross, describing her steadfast presence as a profound example of mercy lived through love and fidelity.
The faithful were encouraged to make the Sign of the Cross prayerfully and intentionally — keeping God’s Word in their minds, proclaiming it through their lips, and living it within their hearts.
The Holy Rosary and various liturgical ministries for the evening were led by the newly baptized Catholics of the parish.
